Oxfordshire CCC play in the MCCA Championship (3 Day Competition), the Minor Counties Trophy (1 Day Competition) and a new T20 competition throughout the summer.
In the Championship we play in the Western Division, where there are 9 teams, we play them on a rotational basis. The season comprises of six 3 day games played every other weekend on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. The Winners of the Western Division play the winners of the Eastern Division in a 4-day championship final. Oxfordshire have won the Championship 4 times in 1929,1979,1984 and 1989. In 2018 Oxfordshire finished 2nd in the Western Division winning an impressive 5 out of 6 games only losing the first game away to eventual champions and neighbours Berkshire. In 2019 Oxfordshire will be looking to go even better and win the Western Division and Final, held at a ground Oxfordshire know well held Banbury CC. The fixtures in 2019 see Oxfordshire travel to Cornwall, Devon and Wales whilst hosting Shropshire, Herefordshire and Cheshire.
In 2018 both One Day competitions moved to coloured clothing and white ball cricket. The 50 Over Minor Counties Trophy reverted back to a knock-out tournament in 2018 with the final being hosted at the beautiful Wormsley Ground. For 2019, the one-day competition remains a knock out competition. This year we begin away to Bedfordshire in Round 1 with a potential round 2 trip to Wales. Oxfordshire have never won the MCCA trophy despite making the final in 2014. In 2018 Oxfordshire reached the Quarter-Final stage of the competition before being knocked out by a very strong Suffolk side at home.
Oxfordshire did not fare as well in the revamped T20 competition losing all 8 games in a tough group containing Bucks, Shropshire and eventual winners Berkshire. Despite some strong individual performances throughout the campaign and exposing a number of younger players Oxfordshire are still searching for their first win in the new competition. The T20 competition sees each county play four other counties twice in the group with the group winners then moving on to a Finals Day over the August Bank Holiday. In the inaugural competition in 2015, Oxfordshire came runner's up in the competition and won an exploratory competition at Wormsley, the current venue for the Finals Day, the following year. All one-day games will now be with a white ball and in coloured clothing.
Oxfordshire also run a 2XI programme playing a number of 50 over and T20 matches focussing on providing a stepping stone for players with Minor Counties ambitions. Recent successes of the 2XI programme are Tom Condon, Olly Clarke and Joe Thomas who have since gone onto represent the Oxfordshire Men’s 1XI in all formats. A number of the 3 day team that came second in the Western Division have come through this programme or the player pathway programme. The last 3 day game of the 2018 season against Wiltshire saw 8 players, all contributing to an Oxfordshire victory, from the player pathway and 2XI programmes progress through to play Minor Counties Cricket. Throughout the 2018 3-day season Oxfordshire used 20 different players who have come through either the Player Pathway Programme or 2XI programme with 12 of those players making their debuts this summer.
